Don’t call it a CUV, crossover, or sports wagon. “The ZDX is truly a luxury performance coupe – plus,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. “The emotional coupe styling coupled with a luxurious and dramatic interior and surprising versatility, allows the ZDX to define its own segment and attract an entirely new customer.”

Officially unveiled at the NY Auto Show, the segment bending ZDX embraces stunning coupe-like styling and great utility, with a truly commanding road presence. Tired of being referred to as re-badged Hondas and embracing conservative, non-offensive styling, Acura has carried the DNA of the controversial 2009 TL to the ZDX with the intention of breaking new ground for Acura in the areas of provocative styling, contemporary luxury and meticulous refinement.

From what we can see of the interior of the ZDX, the cockpit seems to be a direct lift from the 2009 TL, with the exception of the white leather replacing the carbon-fiber-esque trim, giving more of a luxury feel.

“From the very first sketch of the ZDX, I wanted to create an emotional vehicle that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be,” said Michelle Christensen, ZDX exterior designer. “My goal was to create a strikingly beautiful exterior, and use that attraction to help draw you into the rich interior.”

The eagerly awaited Acura ZDX CUV has been unofficially unveiled a day ahead of its formal release at the NY Auto Show. Our friends at AutoSpies were in the right place at the right time, with a camera and got the first clear shot of the ZDX crossover on the New York Auto Show floor before the official press was allowed to see the newest vehicle in the Acura line-up. Acura announced it will debut a prototype of the all-new ZDX luxury four-door sport coupe at the New York International Auto Show. The prototype features striking coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility to define a new luxury category.

“The ZDX prototype is unlike anything you have ever seen before from Acura,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president, Acura sales. “The prototype showcases a new level of luxury, style and refinement for Acura and speaks volumes towards our commitment to advancing the brand.”

The production version of the ZDX prototype will bring a new level of prestige to the Acura lineup when it arrives at dealerships this fall and offer the latest advancements in performance, technology and safety.

The ZDX prototype will be introduced at the New York International Auto Show on April 8, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Acura booth.

As the hype of the upcoming 2010 Acura CUV / Sports Wagon increases, rumors are begining to fly. While we’re trying to weed out the implausible, we have some info that we think is credible. Here are the most recent Acura CUV rumors we have:

• The name of the Acura CUV will be MSX. Apparently the “M” is because it will be similar in size to the MDX, and the “SX” denotes “Sport Experimental”
• The “MSX” will be officially launched at the NY Auto Show on April 10, 2009
• Production of the Acura MSX will begin on March 30, 2009
• Production will occur at the Alliston, Ontario Canada Plant #2 (as previously broken by AcuraBoard)
• Production of the MSX will run about 20,000 units per year (as previously broken by AcuraBoard)
• Acura MSX price will be “well above the MDX”, which currently starts at $40,990
• The only powertrain will be available and it will be the 3.7L V6 used in the 2009 Acura TL SH-AWD, producing more than 300hp
• The MSX will begin hitting Acura dealer lots in late May or early June of 2009

In an effort to build upon the unveiling of the upcoming 2010 Acura CUV / Sport Wagon at the NY Auto Show, Acura has released some gorgeous silhouetted photos of they highly anticipated vehicle.

From the design elements that are visible, its obvious that Acura is staying with the aggressive and polarizing style that has been largely defined by AcuraBoard’s favorite Acura, the 2009 Acura TL.

Acura has finally confirmed plans to add the all new Acura X6-fighter into its line-up for 2010.   If it’s a four-door coupe-like CUV, some might question the logic, but with two crossover architectures already available, it might be a low-cost way of matching BMW model-for-model.

The ACP is a non-profit, community-industry partnership administered by the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) that is intended to link the major traditional centers of automotive activity to each other and to the changing North American industry in order to improve the likelihood of regional automotive renewal.

According to the 60 page document, Acura will be producing what the document refers to as the “Acura Mid-Size Sport Wagon [2AX]” in Alliston Ontario Canada’s Honda Plant # 2.  This is the same plant where the MDX, Pilot, Ridgeline and Civic are all produced.

There will be 1,359 “Sport Wagons” produced in 2010 –  17,667 in 2011 –  18,878 in 2012 and 19,848 in 2013…the typical 4 year Honda/Acura model cycle. To put things in perspective, there will be approximately 40,000 less “Sport Wagons” being produced in 2011 than there are RDXs being produced during that same year.

Based on the sheet metal that is exposed, we see many of the new aggressive and distinctive Acura styling cues peeking through. The side and back seems to have heavy influence from the 2009 Acura TL, including the creased and angular trunk, the wrap around taillights, body line that extends from rear to front, wrap around window chrome and the satellite antenna. It looks like the 2010 Acura CUV will blend in perfectly to the new Acura family and clearly has the Infiniti FX and BMW X6 squarely in its headlights.

Even though CUV sales are tanking across the country, Acura is apparently still set on introducing an opponent to the stylish, yet market-failing BMW X6.  Rumor has it that the Acura CUV will be sharing the chassis and drive train with the recently redesigned 4th generation Acura TL.
